Beyond the geographical distance, this "over there" that Sonia Wieder-Atherton evokes in these notebooks reconstructed during the 2020 lockdown suggests an inner and initiatory journey:
that of the 19-year-old she was when she entered the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in the 1980s to study under Natalia Shakhovskaya.
Clément Cogitore's video creation intertwines the intimate narrative of the talented artist and her cello, taming their voices and accompanying them in their enigmatic and singular beauty. And these "fragments of memory" become our own, set against the backdrop of works by Bach, Shostakovich, Monteverdi, Tchaikovsky, and Vivaldi.
