What if we could break free from the role that has been written for us?
At the dinner table with Billie, her stepdaughter, Inès's attacks fly, each more hurtful than the last. She, too, has become a bitter, frustrated, and cantankerous stepmother. Then, suddenly, Inès loses her footing. She falters, she suffocates, until an unexpected event makes her realize that she is not in control of her life, but rather subjected to it.
Thus begins a quest for freedom, strongly inspired by the encounters of two women along her path: Louna, her cardiologist, and Nadia, the saleswoman at her supermarket. Two courageous women who have chosen to shed the roles assigned to them.
Inès then tries to redefine her own. But she quickly understands that change can only happen if she confronts her wounds, her deep desires, her contradictions and above all Charles, the descendant of Perrault who is determined to perpetuate the story of the famous stepmother.
Never far from fiasco, Inès struggles to find her place and dare to dream bigger.
“Cactus” is a burst of tenderness that questions our heritage, parenthood, and love.
Cactus, a spicy play, both funny and cruel, which revisits the myth of the stepmother.
A preview performance for the 2026 Off Festival.
