Avignon, tous en scène
Départ : Office de tourisme 41 cours Jean Jaurès 84000 Avignon
This guided tour is an invitation to discover the city through the lens of the 7th Art and theatre.
Provence has been a favored land for filmmakers and producers since the birth of cinema, due to its beauty and sunshine.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, historical films, dramas, thrillers, comedies, as well as documentaries, short films, and commercials have all been set against these landscapes. While Avignon was the setting for the splendor of the Papacy in the 14th century, and since 1947 the world capital of theater thanks to its famous festival held in July, it has also inspired filmmakers and served as the backdrop for some forty films and television movies. Its history, rich in events, could itself be the subject of a film.
While traditional tours introduce you to a city through its monuments, this tour will show you the city through the lens of cinema and theater. You'll meet famous actors, discover iconic locations that served as backdrops for films, and share anecdotes from the filming process.
Famous comedians and actors came to Avignon. While some only stayed a few days, lodged at the famous Hôtel de l'Europe, such as Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, Walt Disney, Louis de Funès, and Bourvil, others performed within these walls, appearing in film scenes set in the Provençal city, or appearing on the Festival stage, and whose names remain forever linked to the city: Jean Vilar, Jeanne Moreau, Maria Casarès, Gérard Philipe, Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Béart, Isabelle Huppert, Denis Podalydès, and others.
