Allons enfants de la Patrie ! David, ou l’image de la Révolution

Musée Calvet 65 rue Joseph Vernet 84000 Avignon

Exhibition

Considered one of the greatest painters of his time, Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) is also, through his brush and his political commitment, one of the great figures of the French Revolution.

Nurtured by the philosophy of the Enlightenment, he believes in the power of art to spread ideas at the heart of society.
His painting served to express the political ideas of a revolutionary government of which he was a fervent supporter.
The Death of Bara, a work preserved at the Calvet Museum and created in 1794 in order to create new symbols, is a prime example.
