20,000 books underground, by Fabrice Melquiot, is a theatrical, musical and joyful adventure about books, words and transmission.
A group of siblings unearths a notebook belonging to their father. What does it contain? Memories? Secrets? Forgotten stories? Little by little, this small notebook unlocks a world of memories and imagination. An intimate adventure intertwines with the moving story of the underground library in Daraya, Syria, where books rescued from the ruins have become havens for dreaming, thinking, learning, and resisting.
A sensitive and playful show, to remind us that books can be treasures, hiding places, compasses, and sometimes even strengths to stand tall.
